Citizens, experts, companies and government officials are involved in promoting Nagoya’s city planning.

Greetings
In the course of history, cities evolve with their residents, workers and visitors. The Nagoya Urban Institute is engaged in city planning and works on the process of the city’s evolution. What should be the goals of city planning for Nagoya in the 21st century?
Development of industrial and information technologies has brought rapid globalization in the context of social, economic, and political activities. Meanwhile, there are a myriad of urban problems including reorganization of local communities against the backdrop of global environmental issues as well as aging population and declining birthrate.
Keeping these challenges in mind, the Nagoya Urban Institute is committed to enhancing the attractiveness of Nagoya, a city of safety and amenity, a city of culture, a vital and industrial technology-oriented city, a child-friendly city.
The Nagoya Urban Institute was established in commemoration of the conclusion of the post-war rehabilitation and land readjustment project which has catapulted Nagoya into the global arena. Taking advantage of the past accomplishments, the Nagoya Urban Institute will serve as a center of city planning to gather the wisdom of citizens, universities and companies, and thereby create the future vision of city planning.
The Nagoya Urban Institute will design city planning programs while promoting exchanges. I hope that you will take advantage of the exhibition spaces, library and conference rooms. Your support and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Functions

The Nagoya Urban Institute has three major functions as a center of city planning: work on farsighted and comprehensive investigation and research; Gathering and Offer of information essential for city planning; and development of human resources and exchange of personnel who can undertake city planning.
